Given these points, we want to share more insight about QWO cellulite treatment. Ultimately, the decision is yours and we want you to feel empowered in your decision.
So let’s get started with a little Q&A.
What is Cellulite?
Before answering questions about QWO, lets briefly discuss the condition that it treats.
Cellulite is a localized alteration in the contour of the skin. The primary contributing factor to cellulite is the fibrous connective tissue called the fibrous septae. When the skin (3) thins with aging, the fat cells (2) enlarges and pushes against the skin. This causes the fibrous septae (1) bands to thicken and push against the skin to create dimples. Thus, the visible cellulite on the buttocks.
How Does QWO Work to Eliminate Cellulite?
QWO is made from enzymes called collagenases. These enzymes can target the structural causes under the skin, where cellulite starts. And this releases the fibrous bands, redistributes the fat cells, and stimulates the growth of new collagen.
At Magnolia Medical & Aesthetics, QWO in San Antonio will be injected 3 times into the fibrous septae. And this cellulite treatment will slowly release the fibrous strands.

Best Candidates for QWO
Ideal candidates are adult women who have moderate to severe cases of cellulite in the buttocks. Unfortunately, this product is not currently indicated for men, or other parts of the body such as thighs.
We want to avoid treating laxity as opposed to a true cellulite dimple. As the dermis thins and elastin fibers fragment, the skin loses its ability to recoil back like it once did. This causes the skin to sag. And results in a wavy appearance on the surface of the skin that looks similar to cellulite. Please note that this is different from true cellulite dimples which are caused by a thickening of fibrous septae. To differentiate between a true dimple and laxity, the skin is lifted above the indentation. If the dimple goes away, it is an indicator that it is laxity and not a true cellulite dimple.
Who Should Not Receive QWO Cellulite Treatment?
Do not receive QWO if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in QWO or allergic to any collagenases. While we would love to treat all women desiring QWO in San Antonio, sadly we cannot. For instance, if you have an active infection in the treatment area, you will not be a good candidate.
Additionally, before receiving QWO, patients should alert us of their medical condition including if you:
- have had an allergic reaction to a QWO injection in the past
- are prone to bleeding
- plan to become pregnant or are pregnant
- are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
In addition to the above requirements, please tell us about all the medications you take. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Especially tell us if you take medicine that prevents the clotting of your blood. However, the exception is patients who are taking less than 15mg of aspirin daily.
Preparing For Your Cellulite Treatment in SA
Bruising is expected. You’re more likely to get deeper bruising at the injection site if you’re taking ibuprofen or aspirin. Because these medications thin the blood and increase bleeding which causes the bruise. Therefore, you may be asked to avoid usage up to two weeks in advance of your cellulite treatment in SA.
Also, at check-in, let the nurse know about supplements you’re taking even if they are ‘neutral’. Some supplements such as gingko, Vitamin E and fish oil also thins the blood. We’ll talk to you about your supplements prior to your QWO treatment in San Antonio.
You will experience soreness at the injection site as if you had a good workout. However, this will pass in a few days. But don’t participate in rigorous exercise involving the bottom half of your body for the first few days. In addition to soreness, you may also feel nodules which will resolve in 7-10 days. This is a normal side effect to the treatment. But less bruising is noticed in each subsequent round.
We also recommend not scheduling injections close to events. Especially occasions where you may be wearing something more revealing like a swimsuit. Obviously, bruising may be visible.
